The Indian Premier League 2022 bonanza is all set to begin on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The tournament is one of the most awaited leagues all over the world, because of its high-octane entertainment.

Indian Premier League provides a platform to numerous Indian as well as overseas cricketers to showcase their talent and abilities. Over the years, the quality of the tournament has been elevated by the presence of top overseas players, such as the likes of AB De Villiers, Lasith Malinga, etc.

This season too the overseas players will be keen to make a mark and contribute to their side’s success.

In this article, we take a look at the five overseas players to watch out for in the Indian Premier League 2022 season.

1. Faf Du Plessis

Faf Du Plessis will be leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. He was signed by the franchise for INR 7 crores in the IPL 2022 auctions.

The South African cricketer has been one of the most consistent players in the league over the last few years. He missed out on the orange cap last year by just 2 runs.

Faf slammed 633 runs at an average of 45.21, including six half-centuries in the season. He was instrumental in Chennai Super Kings winning the championship in IPL 2021.

This year, the right-hander will be keen to replicate the performance and lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore to their maiden IPL title.

2. Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada did not have a great Indian Premier League season last year. He took 15 wickets in as many matches, at an economy rate of over 8. However, the pacer’s bowling prowess cannot be taken lightly. In a 50-matches IPL career so far, he has picked 76 wickets at an average of 20.52.

Rabada won the purple cap for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 and was an integral part of the team. This year, he was signed by the Punjab Kings for a massive INR 9.25 crores in the auctions.

The right-hander’s experience and lethal bowling will be key for the Kings in the upcoming season.

3. Glenn Maxwell

After a series of ordinary Indian Premier League seasons, Glenn Maxwell finally played to his potential last season. He slammed 513 runs in 15 matches at an average of 42.75 and a strike rate of 144.1. The Aussie was the leading run-scorer for the franchise in IPL 2021.

On the back of his brilliant performance, Maxwell was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore before IPL auctions for a whopping 11 crores.

Maxwell along with Virat Kohli and Faf Du Plessis makes it a solid batting core for the Bangalore franchise in IPL 2022.

4. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is considered as one of the best spinners in world cricket at the moment. The leggie puts even the best of the batters under pressure with his deceptive bowling skills.

Rashid took 18 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2021 for Sunrisers Hyderabad at an economy rate of 6.69.

The Afghanistan spinner was signed by the Gujarat Titans for INR 15 crores, before the IPL auctions through the draft system. The IPL debutant will be hoping that Rashid Khan continues to spin his web in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

5. David Warner

David Warner had a forgetful Indian Premier League 2021 season. He averaged just 24.37 in 8 matches last year, scoring 195 runs at a strike rate of 107.73. Warner was removed as the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper mid-season and was also dropped from the team.

This year, the left-hander was signed by the Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crores at the auctions. Warner’s presence boosts the already formidable Delhi Capitals batting attack.

He will be keen to put behind the 2021 season and make a fresh start with a new franchise.
