Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to retain their skipper, MS Dhoni, for the next three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicket-keeper batter led the Chennai Super Kings to four illustrious titles, the latest being in 2021.

Dhoni has represented CSK in over 200 matches, scoring 4621 runs at an average of 39.49. Recently, at a Chennai Super Kings event, MS Dhoni had put the retirement speculations to bed, confirming that his last T20 will be in Chennai. He said:

“I have always planned my cricket. My last ODI in India was in Ranchi. Hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, I don’t know.”

Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad to be retained by CSK

Alongside MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings franchise is also likely to retain seasoned campaigner, Ravindra Jadeja, and youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ruturaj Gaikwad won the orange cap in the Indian Premier League 2021, playing an instrumental role in CSK’s successful campaign.

As per reports in the Indian Express, they are also in talks with England all-rounder Moeen Ali, to be the fourth retention for the franchise. If the Moeen Ali deal does not go through, Sam Curran could be CSK’s fourth retention. Notably, veteran CSK batter, Suresh Raina won’t be retained by the franchise. The left-hander struggled for runs in the IPL 2021 season.

According to the retention rules laid by the BCCI, each franchise can retain up to four players from their squad. The players could be two Indians-two overseas, three Indians-one overseas. The final list has to be submitted by the teams by November 30. The mega-auctions are likely to take place in December.
