IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals Announce Their Retention List

Rajasthan Royals have released their retention list ahead of the IPL 2022 season. The IPL retention took place on November 30 and the coverage was live on the Star Sports network.

Sanju Samson was the first player to be retained by the Rajasthan franchise. He has been retained as the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After Steve Smith joined the Delhi Capitals, the Royals picked Samson as their captain for the 2021 IPL season. In the 2018 IPL, the Royals paid INR 8 crores for Samson’s services.

Other two players to be retained are Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The fact that Yashasvi is uncapped means that his retention will cost the Rajasthan Royals just Rs. 4 crore.

In the process, they have released some notable names like Ben Stokes, Chris Morris, Kartik Tyagi, Liam Livingstone three big international players and also Shubman Gill. Gill was seen as a potential captaincy candidate for KKR but as things turned out, the franchise has released him ahead of the mega auction.

Rajasthan Royals have remained ordinary with their performances over the last few years after a memorable title triumph in IPL 2008. Their best performance after the first edition came in 2015, where they qualified for the playoffs. One of the reasons for their low place in the points table is their lack of investment in quality T20 players throughout the years. In the last two seasons, injuries to some of their star players have plagued them.
