Rajasthan Royals power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer has left the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season mid-way to return home to Guyana for the birth of his first child. However, he is expected to rejoin the team later in the tournament.
The Rajasthan Royals released a statement on their official social media platforms to confirm the same. Shimron has been a key performer for the franchise this season. Playing the finisher’s role, he has slammed 291 runs at an average of 72.75, in 11 innings. The destructive figure is his strike rate of 166.28 in the tournament.
Recently, Hetmyer smashed an unbeaten 16-ball 31 runs knock to power the Royals to a six-wicket win over Punjab Kings. The Rajasthan Royals, in their statement, have conveyed their best wishes for Shimron Hetmyer and his wife Nirvani.
“Shimron Hetmyer has traveled back to Guyana early morning today for the imminent birth of his first child. We are helping him in every way we can, and our best wishes are with him and his wife Nirvani,” Rajasthan Royals said in the statement.
“We look forward to Shimron then returning to Mumbai, and resuming duties at the Royals for the remainder of our matches in IPL 2022. All the best, Hettie. We can’t wait to have you back, this time as a father!”
Rajasthan Royals register their seventh win of the season
Rajasthan Royals defeated the Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium to register their seventh win of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They chased down 190 runs in the final over, with six wickets in hand.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was making a comeback for the franchise, won the Player of the Match. He slammed 68 runs, off 41 balls at a strike rate of 165.86. The win boosted Rajasthan Royal’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs. They are third on the points table with fourteen points from eleven matches.
