In the crucial IPL 2023 final match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday, May 29, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Ravindra Jadeja emerged as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) greatest player.
With 10 runs needed off the last two balls, Jadeja displayed outstanding poise by hitting a six and a four off Mohit Sharma‘s bowling to lead his team to an exciting victory.
The Chennai-based team won their fifth IPL final by chasing down the revised 171-run target in 15 overs during the rain-delayed match.
Jadeja finished unbeaten on 15 off just six balls and was one of the key figures in CSK’s victory. A tearful MS Dhoni was seen lifting the all-rounder in joy during the celebrations.
For the fifth time, CSK took home the IPL trophy
The wonderful moment is captured on video here:
Sai Sudharsan’s brilliant 96-run knock helped GT post a massive 214-run total after being given the opportunity to bat first. After the first innings, however, the game was called off due to rain, and CSK was given a new target.
With 47 runs, Chennai’s opening player Devon Conway led all scorers. Shivam Dube (32*), Ajinkya Rahane (27), Ruturaj Gaikwad (26), and Ambati Rayudu (19) all made significant contributions as well.
After the game, Ravindra Jadeja spoke with Simon Doull and gave MS Dhoni the credit for CSK’s convincing victory. He also mentioned the crowd’s unwavering support for the team throughout the contest.
He noted how the stadium patrons waited patiently for the game to resume following the forced break caused by the rain, saying:
“Feeling incredible winning the fifth title in front of my home crowd. For CSK’s support, they have shown up in large numbers. What a great group of people. Till late at night, they waited for the rain to stop. I want to congratulate all CSK supporters. And I want to honor one of our team’s special players, MS Dhoni, by dedicating this victory to him”.
“I was just considering how I should always swing hard. Sure, anything is possible. Because Mohit can bowl slower ones, I was aiming to hit straight. I want to congratulate each and every CSK fan. Continually applaud in the same manner”.
Notably, Dhoni mentioned in the post-game presentation that he is not retiring and will return to play for CSK in the upcoming IPL, much to the delight of the fans.
