IPL 2024: Ishant Sharma Leaves The Field With A Limp After Twisting His Ankle In The PBKS vs DC Match

In the IPL 2024 opener between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur, pacer Ishant Sharma sustained an ankle injury while fielding.

During the sixth over of Punjab’s innings, Ishant twisted his right ankle while attempting to field a shot from Prabhsimran Singh off Mitchell Marsh’s delivery, visibly experiencing considerable discomfort.

The physiotherapist hurried onto the field to assess Ishant Sharma’s injury, and he was subsequently escorted off the field.

In the meantime, Punjab won the coin toss and chose to bowl first. Delhi managed to achieve a total of 174/9, largely due to Ishan Porel’s explosive innings towards the latter part of the match.

Porel, selected as an Impact Player, justified the team management’s trust by finishing unbeaten on 32 runs from only 10 deliveries. His explosive performance in the final over contributed significantly to Delhi’s strong finish, accumulating 25 runs.

Ishant Sharma got Shikhar Dhawan out and was involved in running out Jonny Bairstow before getting injured

Delhi entrusted the opening over to experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma, who initially struggled with his line, conceding three wides and a boundary.

Despite the shaky start, Sharma recovered well, allowing only one run from the remaining five deliveries. He then made a significant impact by taking the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan on the first ball of his second over. Dhawan attempted an attacking shot but missed, resulting in his dismissal as the ball hit the stumps.

Punjab suffered a double setback when both their openers were dismissed in quick succession. Jonny Bairstow was run out after facing only two deliveries. While Prabhsimran Singh was on strike, he hit the ball back down the pitch.

Ishant managed to get a fingertip to it, redirecting the ball onto the stumps. Bairstow, who was out of his crease, couldn’t make it back in time, resulting in his unfortunate dismissal.
