IPL 2024: [WATCH] Ayush Badoni Leaves The Field Unhappy Following A Controversial Run-Out Decision By Third Umpire

Ayush Badoni representing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), faced a contentious run-out decision by the third umpire in the 48th match of IPL 2024 against Mumbai Indians (MI) led by Hardik Pandya. This incident took place on Tuesday, April 30, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Ayush Badoni entered the crease at number seven for Lucknow Super Giants after KL Rahul & Co. faced some difficulties during their run-chase against Mumbai Indians. Batting at number seven has proven to be highly successful for Ayush Badoni.

The coaching staff and players of Lucknow Super Giants would have counted on him to see the team through to victory, considering the modest target and the relatively few runs needed when he came to bat. The batsman showed confidence upon entering the crease, striking an impressive four to exert pressure on Mumbai Indians’ bowlers.

However, Ayush Badoni’s innings was short-lived, lasting only six balls, as he was controversially run out by the third umpire. In the 19th over, on the first ball, Hardik Pandya delivered a short-length ball outside the off-stump to Ayush Badoni. The LSG batter played it towards deep cover point, aiming for a single.

While attempting a second run, the fielder swiftly returned the ball to Ishan Kishan, who successfully dislodged the bails on the second attempt. It appeared that Ayush Badoni had made it to the crease before the bails were dislodged. However, upon reviewing the replays, the third umpire, KN Ananthapadmanabhan, determined that Ayush Badoni had not grounded his bat at any point.

Despite being well inside the crease, he was deemed out as his bat was in the air. Ayush Badoni expressed dissatisfaction after being dismissed for 6, leading to a brief moment of unrest in the LSG dugout. Head coach Justin Langer and captain KL Rahul also appeared disappointed with the decision.

Irfan Pathan Upset Over Umpire’s Poor Decision

Former Indian national cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his anger at the third umpire’s decision, describing it as awful, in a post on his official X account.

“What a terrible decision by the third umpire of run out,” he stated.

In the final outcome, Lucknow Super Giants effectively pursued the target to secure a victory by 4 wickets. Following the match, LSG’s head coach, Justin Langer, conveyed his joy regarding the triumph over Mumbai Indians and disclosed their profound disappointment following the previous defeat.

Notably, Lucknow Super Giants suffered a significant setback, enduring a 7-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals, allowing them to easily chase down 197 runs.

“That’s a smile, we were bitterly disappointed with our last game. So to be able to fight back against Mumbai Indians and get the points, that’s certainly a smile.”

”What I am learning in this competition is every game is hard and every game is vital. So to get the points, we are thrilled with that,” he said

When discussing Lucknow Super Giants’ bowling performance, Justin Langer remarked that they executed exceptionally well during the match. He further elaborated:

“It was outstanding, I thought we had all bases covered. You are always looking to take wickets in the powerplay. When you do that, you are always ahead of the game. It’s the first time, besides Bangalore early in the tournament, we took those early wickets and that set us up nicely.”
