Venkatesh Iyer secured a commanding victory for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against the Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens in the IPL 2024 encounter with a six. The southpaw batsman dispatched a delivery from Rasikh Dar over the long-off boundary as KKR cruised to a seven-wicket triumph.
As the 17th over began, the Knight Riders needed merely three runs for victory. While the first two deliveries remained unproductive, Iyer struck the decisive runs to surpass the 154-run target.
The partnership between him and Shreyas Iyer reached an unbroken 57, aiding the two-time champions in rebounding from a significant defeat against the Punjab Kings.
Phil Salt’s explosive start laid the foundation for the Knight Riders as he hammered 68 runs from just 33 balls, comprising seven boundaries and five maximums. Although Axar Patel dismissed both Salt and Sunil Narine, the home team was comfortably leading the game by that point.
Varun Chakravarthy’s bowling makes it difficult for Delhi Capitals when facing KKR
Varun Chakravarthy delivered an excellent performance, taking three wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs. He dismissed Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and Kumar Kushagra. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana each took two wickets, while Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine claimed one wicket each.
Kuldeep Yadav unexpectedly emerged as the highest scorer for the Capitals with an undefeated 35 runs. Pant was the only other Capitals batsman to surpass 20, scoring 27 off 20 balls.
Chakravarthy was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance, which aided the Knight Riders in solidifying their second position in the points table, trailing only the Rajasthan Royals.
KKR had a disappointing match against the Punjab Kings, who achieved the highest-ever run chase in T20 cricket history by successfully chasing down 262 runs with ten balls to spare and eight wickets remaining.
