IPL 2024: “We Are Taking A Cautious Approach With Rishabh Pant” – Sourav Ganguly, Delhi Capitals Director Of Cricket

Rishabh Pant

Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly reveals that they will not rush and are cautious about Rishabh Pant ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League season. Pant will be making his comeback after the horrific car accident in December 2022.

The wicket-keeper batter has been out of action for over a year since the accident. He has missed several tournaments, including the 2023 Indian Premier League season and the ICC ODI World Cup. He underwent surgeries and is likely to make his return in the upcoming season of the T20 league. Sourav Ganguly expressed that Rishabh Pant is a huge addition for them, and they will be cautious about his workload. He said,

“That’s part of professional sport. Rishabh coming back fit is a huge addition for us. We hope he plays the full season because he is a very special player. We have worked on some domestic players who have done well in all formats. But Rishabh is very important.”

Rishabh Pant to get clearance from NCA on March 5

Rishabh Pant has scored 2838 runs in the Indian Premier League at a strike rate of 147.97. He has fifteen half-centuries and one century to his name in the tournament. He will be keen to make an impact for the Capitals in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League season. Ganguly revealed that the wicket-keeper batter will be getting clearance from the National Cricket Academy on March 5.

“He has done everything to get fit and that’s the reason NCA will clear him. Let Rishabh get cleared on Mar 5 only then we talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him. Don’t want to push him in excitement. We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict,” said Ganguly.

“As for wicketkeeping options, there’s Kumar Kushagra. Ricky Bhui has had a very good season. There is Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs,” he added.
