IPL 2024: “You Will Take This Team’s Legacy Ahead In Style” – Suryakumar Yadav Congratulates Ruturaj Gaikwad On Becoming CSK Captain

Mumbai Indians’ standout batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, congratulated Ruturaj Gaikwad for taking over as the new captain of Chennai Super Kings, replacing MS Dhoni, in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

Yadav noted the significant task ahead for Gaikwad but expressed confidence in his ability to succeed, citing his composed demeanor akin to Dhoni’s. Gaikwad’s appointment was disclosed a day before the 2024 season opener between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chepauk on March 22nd.

Suryakumar Yadav posted on Instagram:

“Can’t deny the fact that you have got big shoes to fill bhauu (brother). But I am sure with your cool and calm nature, you will take this team’s legacy ahead in style. Wishing you all the love and luck.”

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s promotion to captaincy follows his consistent batting performances over the last three IPL seasons, where he scored 590, 368, and 635 runs respectively. His contributions were instrumental in Chennai Super Kings winning the trophy in 2021 and 2023.

In total, Gaikwad has amassed 1797 runs in 52 matches at a strike rate of 135.52, including one century and 14 half-centuries. Meanwhile, it’s important to note that Suryakumar Yadav’s availability for Mumbai Indians’ opening match against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, March 24, remains uncertain.

The middle-order batsman is still recovering from an ankle surgery earlier this year and is currently being monitored by the BCCI’s medical staff in consideration of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“Looking forward to enjoy it” –Ruturaj Gaikwad is thrilled to captain CSK in IPL 2024

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad expresses joy at the prospect of leading CSK in IPL 2024. The 27-year-old emphasizes that he will benefit from the presence of seasoned leaders such as MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane in the squad. Reflecting on his appointment, Gaikwad conveyed to CSK:

“It feels good. It’s a privilege obviously. More than that, it’s a huge responsibility, but I’m really excited because of the kind of group we have. Everyone’s experienced enough, so not much to do for me.”

He continued:

“Plus, I have Mahi (Dhoni) bhai in the team, Jaddu (Jadeja) bhai as well, Ajju (Rahane) bhai as well, who’s been a great captain, to guide me. Nothing much to worry, just looking forward to enjoy it.”
