Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane has added another milestone to his name by becoming the ninth batter in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to cross 5,000 runs. This achievement came during a match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens. Rahane played a solid innings of 48 runs off 33 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of nearly 146.
His overall IPL record now stands at 5,017 runs in 197 matches, with an average of 30.59 and a strike rate above 124. He has scored two centuries and 33 fifties, with a highest score of 105*. Over the years, Ajinkya Rahane has played for various franchises including Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals, CSK, and now KKR.
Rahane’s IPL Journey Across Teams
Rahane’s best years came with Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 2,810 runs in 93 innings with two centuries and 17 fifties. His average during that stint was 34.27 with a strike rate of 122.65. For Rising Pune Supergiant, he contributed 862 runs across two seasons, averaging 33.15.
While his time at Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals was less productive—with only 148 and 121 runs respectively—his resurgence came with CSK, where he scored 568 runs in two seasons at a strong strike rate of 147.53. Since returning to KKR in 2025, he has added 508 runs in 18 innings, averaging 29.88 and maintaining a strike rate above 132. His role as an experienced top-order batter continues to be vital for KKR.
KKR vs CSK Match Highlights
In the same match where Rahane reached his milestone, KKR chose to bat first. A 58 run partnership between Rahane and Sunil Narine gave them a good start. Later contributions from Andre Russell and Manish Pandey helped KKR post a total of 179/6. CSK’s Noor Ahmed stood out with figures of 4/31.
In reply, CSK suffered an early collapse but were revived by Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dube. Despite losing quick wickets in the death overs, MS Dhoni sealed the win with a six in the final over, as CSK reached 183/8 in 19.4 overs. Vaibhav Arora picked three wickets but was expensive. KKR’s playoff hopes now hang by a thread, as they sit sixth on the table with 11 points from 12 matches.
