IPL 2025: Dhoni Opens Up About Post-Match Talk With Rising Stars Suryavanshi And Mhatre

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni shared the guidance he offered to young batting sensations Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi following their IPL 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Delhi on Tuesday, May 20.

At just 14 and 17 years old, respectively, the duo has electrified the second half of the tournament with explosive performances. Suryavanshi notably smashed the fastest IPL century by an Indian off just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) earlier in the season.

Mhatre, on the other hand, has provided much-needed stability at the top of the order for CSK, averaging 34.33 with a strike rate exceeding 187 across six matches. During the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni spoke about the advice he gave to the promising youngsters (as reported by India Today):

“They have to try for the consistency, but if you are looking for 200-plus strike rate then consistency is hard to get. They have the ability to hit sixes at any stage. Don’t take pressure, when the expectations rise. Learn from senior players and coaching staff, it’s about reading the game. This would be my advice to all the youngsters who have done well.”

Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi brought the Arun Jaitley Stadium alive with their explosive batting in the CSK vs RR encounter. Mhatre gave CSK a flying start, smashing 43 off just 20 balls. Despite his efforts, the rest of the CSK lineup struggled to keep the momentum going, managing a modest total of 187/8 in their 20 overs.

In response, Suryavanshi delivered one of his most composed innings of the season, scoring 57 off 33 deliveries to lay a solid foundation for Rajasthan Royals. His teammates built on that platform and comfortably chased down the target in 17.1 overs with six wickets in hand.

The victory allowed RR to retain their ninth-place spot on the table, while CSK stayed at the bottom with one match left to play.
