Ayush Mhatre’s young cousin was seen in tears after the Mumbai batter lit up the Wankhede Stadium with a sensational IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday. Mhatre, who joined the five-time champions just days prior, was brought into the playing XI in place of Rahul Tripathi.
Walking in to bat after Rachin Ravindra’s early dismissal in the fourth over, Mhatre made an explosive start to his IPL career by hitting a four and two sixes off the first three deliveries he faced, even catching the attention of MS Dhoni. Though his innings was cut short at 32 runs off just 15 balls, dismissed by Deepak Chahar, it was a special moment.
A video shared by CSK on social media captured Ayush Mhatre’s little cousin getting emotional, shedding tears of joy while celebrating the 17-year-old’s big leap into top-tier cricket. You can watch the video here:

In the meantime, Mumbai Indians cruised to a dominant nine-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings, thanks to stylish half-centuries from captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Chasing a target of 177, Rohit (76* off 45) and Suryakumar (68* off 30) put together an unbroken 114-run partnership for the second wicket, comfortably guiding MI to victory.
For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja was the only bowler to claim a wicket, finishing with figures of 1/18. Earlier in the match, Jadeja and Shivam Dube both scored fifties and combined for a 79-run fourth-wicket stand, helping CSK post a total of 176/5.
Mumbai Indians Move Up One Spot in IPL 2025 Rankings
With this victory, Mumbai Indians moved up one place to sixth in the points table, accumulating eight points and overtaking Kolkata Knight Riders. Meanwhile, CSK remains at the bottom, having won only two of their eight matches. Both teams are set to face Sunrisers Hyderabad next, with Mumbai Indians playing on April 23 and CSK on April 25.
