Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Rathi has been suspended for one match after a heated on-field clash with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Abhishek Sharma during their IPL 2025 match at the Ekana Stadium on Monday, May 19.
Rathi will miss LSG’s next game against Gujarat Titans on Thursday, May 22. The suspension comes after he picked up another demerit point during the incident, bringing his total to five for the season. This was his third Level 1 offence, which led to the one-match ban.
In addition, Rathi has been fined 50% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Abhishek Sharma has also been fined 25% of his match fee and given one demerit point for his first Level 1 offence of the season.
The incident occurred when Rathi dismissed Abhishek and celebrated with his trademark notebook gesture, which triggered an angry reaction from the SRH opener. The situation escalated, and both players exchanged words before umpires and teammates stepped in to calm things down.
LSG Eliminated from Playoffs Despite Digvesh Rathi’s Strong Performance
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted a strong total of 205/7 in their must-win match, hoping to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) chased down the target with ease, reaching it in 18.2 overs with six wickets in hand.
Digvesh Rathi continued his good form, taking 2/37 in his four overs, including the wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. But with little support from the other bowlers, his efforts weren’t enough to prevent defeat.
As a result, LSG have been knocked out of the playoff race. They are now the fifth team to be eliminated, with only 10 points from 12 games (five wins, seven losses). Even if they win their last two matches, they can only reach 14 points — not enough to qualify.
