[WATCH]- Digvesh Rathi Celebrates As Shardul Thakur’s Catch Dismisses Jos Buttler In IPL 2025

Digvesh Rathi continued his strong run in the IPL 2025 season, claiming a key wicket for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by removing Gujarat Titans (GT) wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler. The LSG leg-spinner dismissed the English star for 16 in Lucknow on Saturday, April 12, with the help of Shardul Thakur’s excellent catch.

Buttler attempted a sweep shot but was undone by the extra bounce, resulting in a top edge. Thakur covered significant ground to his left and completed a tricky catch at short fine-leg. Rathi celebrated the dismissal with his trademark notebook gesture, mimicking writing on the pitch. You can watch the video here:

Digvesh Rathi faced disciplinary action early in IPL 2025 for his celebrations, receiving fines for directing his trademark notebook gesture toward dismissed batters. He was docked 25 percent of his match fee for using the celebration after removing Punjab Kings’ Priyansh Arya.

In the subsequent game, he was fined 50 percent of his match fee for a similar celebration following the dismissal of Mumbai Indians’ Naman Dhir. Since the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), however, Rathi has modified his celebration, now performing the notebook gesture by mimicking writing on the ground instead.

LSG bowlers strike back after Gill-Sudharsan’s 120-run stand

LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to field, a decision that initially seemed to backfire as GT’s opening pair, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, dominated the LSG bowlers. However, after Gill was dismissed for 60, LSG bowlers staged a comeback, taking wickets regularly to halt GT’s momentum. Sudharsan, who scored 56 off 37 balls, noted that the pitch wasn’t the easiest to bat on.

“It was difficult today, not coming on well, but me and Shubhi [Gill] had a lovely six overs of powerplay and that gave us momentum and gave us a good platform to finish good. The first few overs we didn’t feel [the wicket would slow down], once the shine wore off the wicket started getting different.”

“We had a conversation that the wicket could get slow but at the same time we didn’t want to reduce our momentum and strike rate so it would be easier for us to finish well,” Sudharsan told the broadcasters in the mid-innings break (via ESPN Cricinfo).
