IPL 2025: Fans Reacts As Mitchell Starc Claims A Fifer Against SRH

In a high-octane encounter between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 30, 2025, at the Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Mitchell Starc delivered a spellbinding performance that left the cricketing world in awe. 

The Australian left-arm pacer representing DC showcased his prowess by dismantling SRH’s top order, claiming the prized wickets of Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Later on, he picked up 2 more to complete his fifer.

Setting the Stage for the Match

The match commenced under the floodlights, with SRH winning the toss and electing to bat first on a pitch known for its batting-friendly nature. The anticipation was palpable as fans filled the stands, eager to witness a clash between two formidable teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Starc’s Opening Salvo in the match

Mitchell Starc, renowned for his lethal pace and swing, took the new ball for DC. Facing him was his compatriot and SRH’s explosive opener, Travis Head. On the very first delivery, Starc produced a delivery that swung in late, piercing through Head’s defenses and uprooting the middle stump. The crowd erupted as Head departed for 22 runs, setting the tone for what was to come. This dismissal was reminiscent of Starc’s previous encounters with Head, where he had exploited similar technical vulnerabilities.

Buoyed by the early breakthrough, Starc continued his assault. In his second over, he targeted Ishan Kishan, SRH’s wicketkeeper-batsman known for his aggressive stroke play. Starc delivered a short-pitched ball that climbed sharply towards Kishan’s ribcage. Caught in an awkward position, Kishan attempted a pull shot but only managed to glove it to the wicketkeeper. The precision and planning behind this delivery showcased Starc’s strategic acumen, leaving SRH reeling at 20/2.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s Brief Resistance

Nitish Kumar Reddy, a promising young talent, walked in with the responsibility of stabilizing SRH’s innings. However, Starc was relentless. In his third over, he bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that angled across Reddy. Attempting to guide it down to third man, Reddy only managed an edge, which was comfortably taken by the slip fielder. This wicket marked Starc’s third scalp in as many overs, leaving SRH in dire straits at 25/3.

In the 18th over, with DC striving to accelerate their run rate, Starc’s precision bowling led to the dismissal of Harshal Patel on the second ball (18.2 overs), followed by Wiaan Mulder on the fourth ball (18.4 overs). These consecutive wickets significantly curtailed SRH’s momentum, highlighting Starc’s pivotal role in DC’s bowling attack.

Starc’s fiery spell not only decimated SRH’s top order but also injected a surge of confidence into the DC camp. His figures at the end of the powerplay read an impressive 4 overs, 35 runs, and 5 wickets. While the economy rate was on the higher side, the crucial breakthroughs he provided outweighed the runs conceded.

Starc’s performance drew parallels to his exploits in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1, where, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he had dismantled SRH’s top order by removing Travis Head, Nitish Reddy, and Shahbaz Ahmed in quick succession. His ability to rise to the occasion in crucial matches has been a hallmark of his illustrious career.
