IPL 2025: From Struggles To Stardom, Jitesh Sharma’s RCB Revival Story

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Jitesh Sharma has credited mentor Dinesh Karthik for helping him rediscover his form in IPL 2025. After a poor 2024 season with Punjab Kings, where he scored only 187 runs in 14 matches at a low average and strike rate, Jitesh has already made an impact at RCB. In just four matches, he has scored 85 runs at a much better strike rate of 185, showing signs of renewed confidence.

Jitesh Sharma revealed that he trained hard with Karthik during the off-season. He said the shots he is playing now are similar to the ones Karthik used to play and that his mentor is trying to shape him into a complete ‘360-degree’ batter. Karthik believes in his ability and has given him the confidence to play all around the ground. Jitesh also mentioned that he is enjoying his new role and feels fully backed by the team.

Learning From Mistakes and Moving Forward

Jitesh admitted that his struggles last season were more mental than technical. He was too focused on the future and not in the moment. Dinesh Karthik helped him understand that a bad season can happen to any player and is not something to be ashamed of. He reminded Jitesh that such phases are part of a cricketer’s journey and encouraged him to stay focused.

After being dropped from the Indian T20I team in January following the series against Afghanistan, Jitesh was low on confidence. But Karthik spotted areas where he could improve, especially in terms of shot selection. He worked on those weaknesses, and the results are now visible. Jitesh has played some impactful innings for RCB, including a quick 33 against Gujarat Titans and a fiery 40 against Mumbai Indians, showing clear improvement.

Confident Ahead of Clash Against Delhi Capitals

Jitesh believes RCB have the upper hand against Delhi Capitals in their upcoming match. He pointed out that RCB have won tough away games, which has boosted their morale. He also said that unlike Delhi, who rely on just a few key players, RCB’s entire batting line-up has been contributing.

According to him, the team’s success is due to playing smart cricket, not just aggressive shots. Each player has been given a specific role, and everyone is sticking to the plan. Jitesh also spoke about facing Jasprit Bumrah recently and said the fast bowler looked in top form, comparing him to his peak performance in past ICC events.
