Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill was spotted giving an intense sendoff to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Venkatesh Iyer during their IPL 2025 encounter on Monday, April 21. Usually known for his calm and composed demeanor on the field, Gill’s fiery reaction surfaced after Iyer’s dismissal.
KKR were chasing a target of 199 when Iyer was removed by Sai Kishore in the 12th over, having scored 14 runs off 19 deliveries. The wicket proved to be crucial in the context of the match. Playing at Eden Gardens against his former team, Gill didn’t hold back his emotions.
As the dismissal happened, the charged-up GT skipper was seen pumping his fists and uttering a few words before heading over to congratulate Kishore. After the match, Gill was asked about his animated celebration and sendoff. He admitted that the intensity of the match led to an emotional reaction.
“We were ahead in the game, but it’s one thing to be ahead and another to close the game. Good teams when they are chasing or defending, close the game very well. So that was just some of my emotions coming out,” he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Shubman Gill shines as GT clinch victory over KKR
Shubman Gill maintained his strong form as Gujarat Titans (GT) captain, guiding his team to yet another convincing victory. Alongside his leadership, Gill made a significant impact with the bat against KKR at Eden Gardens. The GT skipper led by example, blasting a superb half-century.
He smashed 90 runs off 55 deliveries, including 10 boundaries and three sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 163.64. Though the 25-year-old narrowly missed out on a well-earned century, his knock laid the foundation for a competitive total.
GT’s bowlers backed up the effort with a disciplined performance, successfully defending the target. For his stellar batting display, Gill was named Player of the Match. It was his third fifty in eight matches this season.
