Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Glenn Maxwell endured a disappointing performance with the bat in the ongoing match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, being played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Maxwell, who returned to the Punjab Kings XI after being dropped, was expected to play a pivotal role for his team against KKR.
However, his struggles with the bat continued in this edition of the IPL. Coming in to bat at number four, Maxwell seemed out of sorts from the very beginning. He appeared unsettled, attempting a variety of shots that failed to come off, putting additional pressure on skipper Shreyas Iyer, who was at the other end.
Maxwell did manage to hit a reverse sweep for four, briefly suggesting a potential return to form. But once again, Varun Chakravarthy proved to be his undoing. Maxwell was dismissed cheaply as Chakravarthy bowled a fast, flat delivery.
Glenn Maxwell tried to cut the ball but missed, with it hitting the top of the off-stump. Frustrated, he walked back to the pavilion without making a significant impact on the game. You can watch the video here:

Maxwell’s struggle with form persisted as he was dismissed for just 7 runs. The batter has had a tough time in the league, with his scores in the ongoing IPL 2025 reading: 0, 30, 1, 3, 7, and 7.
Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh lead PBKS to a total of 201/4 in 20 overs
Earlier, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first at Eden Gardens. The opening partnership of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh justified Iyer’s decision, adding 120 runs for the first wicket. The duo attacked the KKR bowlers, finding the boundaries and setting up a strong foundation for a big total.
Arya mentioned that the pitch was on the slower side, and coach Ricky Ponting had advised the pair to focus on rotating the strike after the Powerplay.
“We have a very good total, because the wicket is on the slower side. Ricky (Ponting) sir told us to rotate the strike after six overs and take it deep. I really like batting with Prabhsimran. He asks me which bowler to charge, the shots I can play,” Arya said at the mid-innings break via ESPN Cricinfo.
