IPL 2025: “Why’re They Giving Me The Award?” – MS Dhoni’s Gesture After Match-Winning Knock Goes Viral

MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, was genuinely surprised after receiving the Player of the Match award in their win over Lucknow Super Giants. He scored a quick 26 runs off just 11 balls, including four boundaries and a six, helping his team finish the chase in a thrilling manner. Despite this impressive performance, Dhoni admitted he didn’t expect to receive the award.

He even mentioned that another player, Noor Ahmad, who bowled brilliantly, could have been more deserving. Dhoni said during the presentation that he was wondering why the award was given to him, as Noor had also done very well. This moment also marked Dhoni as the oldest player to win the award in IPL history, yet he remained humble and chose to highlight his teammate’s contribution.

Chennai’s Struggles and Key Victory

The win against Lucknow Super Giants was only the second for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 season, and the team still sits at the bottom of the points table. Dhoni acknowledged the importance of winning games in a competitive tournament like the IPL. He explained that earlier matches didn’t go their way for several reasons, but this victory boosted the team’s confidence.

He pointed out that the match was tough, especially during the powerplay overs when the team struggled with the ball. The batting department also had a slow start, and the team kept losing wickets at crucial moments. MS Dhoni said that one of the possible reasons for this could be the nature of the Chennai pitch, which tends to be a bit slower. He added that the batting unit had performed slightly better in away matches where the pitches offered more support for stroke-making.

Improvements and Team Strategy

Dhoni spoke about the need to adapt their strategy and reduce pressure on certain players like Ravichandran Ashwin, who had been bowling two overs in the powerplay. Changes in the bowling lineup seemed to have improved the team’s performance, though Dhoni felt that the batting still needed work.

He emphasized the importance of understanding roles and responsibilities, especially for players who can anchor the innings. Speaking about young talent Shaik Rasheed, Dhoni said he had been performing well in practice sessions against both pace and spin. He believes Rasheed has the ability to play authentic cricket shots and could become a strong performer in the future.
