IPL 2025: “Real Fans Always Support”- Ravichandran Ashwin Shuts Down CSK Trolls

Off-spinner R. Ashwin has responded to criticism surrounding his performances since rejoining the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025. While acknowledging the importance of constructive feedback, Ashwin made it clear that online trolls don’t faze him, calling their comments venomous.

Alongside cricket analyst Prasanna Agoram, Ashwin reflected on what has been a challenging start to the season for CSK. An emotional Ashwin spoke about the pressure he faced early in the season. Even after retiring from international cricket last year, he said he’s open to criticism — including from his own father, who still points out his bad performances.

“Generally, nobody likes losing. Honestly, I am not bothered by the trolling. You are saying ‘don’t troll and all that, I don’t bother about that. If people are talking about you, pointing out your flaws, it can come from a position of meaning well. We can take it as constructive criticism. But, a few people, when they go after you, it is just venom,” Ashwin said on his YouTube show.

“It’s easy to tell the difference between constructive criticism and hate. I don’t worry about it. My focus is always on being better than yesterday—that’s my mantra. Genuine criticism, even from fans or my parents, comes from a place of love, and that’s totally fine,” he said.

Ravichandran Ashwin came back to CSK for Rs 9.75 crore but hasn’t done well yet. He has taken five wickets in five matches, with an economy rate of 9.88. He had a tough game against Punjab Kings, giving 21 runs in the powerplay.

Ashwin Talks Fan Support and His Views on RCB Loyalty

R. Ashwin mentioned that he avoids social media during high-pressure tournaments, and this season has been no exception.

“It’s tough being fans too. Back when I was with Rajasthan Royals, I’d completely switch off. I wouldn’t engage, even if someone talked cricket. During the tournament, I stay fully focused—no social media, no comments. Even when friends text ‘stay strong’ during a bad phase, I tell them not to. I don’t want to know what’s happening outside. Some people troll without reason—just out of anger,” he said.

Ashwin shared that Dinesh Karthik praised RCB fans for their loyal support during tough times.

“Talking about fandom, last year, I did an episode of Kutty stories with Dinesh Karthik. He told me one thing about RCB fandom. He said RCB fans will not let down any of their players at any stage. I agree that fandom is about criticism and keeping it real. But, no player goes out there to make mistakes.

“But, you can be constructive with your criticism and trolling. At the same time, there are fans who don’t let their players down. I believe they are real fans,” he added.
