The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) reclaimed the top spot in the IPL 2026 standings with a commanding 6-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday, May 13.

Playing at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur, RCB chased down a challenging target of 193 with five balls to spare, fueled by a masterclass from Virat Kohli, who silenced critics after a brief lean patch.

After winning the toss and electing to field, RCB’s bowling attack, led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/34)and Josh Hazlewood (1/35), struck early to remove the KKR openers. However, young sensation Angkrish Raghuvanshi anchored the KKR innings with a classy 71 off 46 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes.

He shared vital partnerships with Cameron Green (32 off 24) and Rinku Singh, who provided a late-inning flourish with an unbeaten 49 off 29 balls. Despite the steady pressure from RCB’s death bowlers, KKR finished with a competitive total of 192/4.

RCB’s chase began with intent, although Jacob Bethell (15) fell early to Kartik Tyagi, who was the pick of the KKR bowlers with 3/32. The game, however, belonged entirely to Virat Kohli. Coming off two consecutive ducks, Kohli looked determined from the first ball.

He shared a match-defining 92-run stand with Devdutt Padikkal (39 off 27), taking the game away from KKR in the middle overs. During his innings, Kohli also became the fastest player to reach 14,000 T20 runs, achieving the feat in just 409 innings.

Kohli eventually reached his 9th IPL century, finishing unbeaten on 105 off 60 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes.Despite a spectacular catch by Manish Pandey to dismiss Tim David late in the game, Jitesh Sharma struck the winning boundary to take RCB to 194/4 in 19.1 overs.

The win puts RCB level on points with Gujarat Titans but ahead on net run rate, while KKR’s playoff hopes now hang by a thread.
