Following MI’s last-ball loss to RCB a few days ago, he was seen having a friendly video call with Venkatesh’s friend, a moment that quickly grabbed attention online.

The five-time champions, however, have been knocked out of the tournament after managing only three wins from 11 games.

After the match, a video began circulating on social media showing Rohit Sharma greeting someone named Piyush, believed to be Venkatesh Iyer’s friend, with folded hands. The former India captain was seen asking about his health and jokingly telling him to look after the all-rounder as well.

It was not a major outing with the bat for Rohit, who scored 22 off just 10 deliveries. The opener struck two fours and two sixes during his quick cameo, batting at a strike rate of 220. Despite the disappointment of the defeat, his warm gesture became one of the talking points after the RCB vs MI encounter.

So far in IPL 2026, Rohit has scored 243 runs at an average of 48.60 and a strike rate of 177.37, including two fifties, with a highest score of 84. Meanwhile, Venkatesh has played only two matches this season, scoring 41 runs at a strike rate of 136.66.
