Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell broke his silence on the hospitalisation saga that took place last month. He was hospitalised on Friday, January 22, after he collapsed while partying with his friends. According to media reports, the all-rounder had consumed alcohol.

Australian captain Pat Cummins and coach Andrew McDonald took stock of the matter. They also clarified during a press conference that they are aware of the incident that took place and want Maxwell to reflect on his behaviour. Recently, the Australian batter returned to cricket during the T20I series against the West Indies. He slammed a century in the second match of the series.

Speaking to the press, Maxwell spoke about the incident for the first time. He said,

“I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me.”

“I knew I had that week off. And obviously, that incident was less than ideal, and the timing. But I had that week off, I knew I had that week off away from the game,” he added.

Earlier during the mid-innings break, Glenn Maxwell had also hinted at the incident. He said to the broadcasters,

“I got my parents here as well. So, um, had a few cursed Adelaide trips, Uh, with them coming over a couple of times. So I got injured. I think I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So, um, it’s nice to make this a positive one.”

Focus on the matches ahead: Glenn Maxwell

Australian all-rounder further expressed that his focus now is on the T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2024 for Australia. The mega-event kicks off in June following the Indian Premier League 2024 season. He added that he wants to be in a good space of mind ahead of the upcoming matches. Glenn Maxwell said,

“And I came back and got back into my running, my gym program and it felt really good and refreshed once I got back. And it’s all been focused on getting myself ready for this (T20) series and what’s to come.”

“We know we have got four international games until the (T20) World Cup and how it comes around pretty quickly. And I just try to make sure I’m in as good a space as I can be for that tournament,” he added.
