I’ve Gained Valuable Insights From MS Dhoni, But I’ve my Unique Leadership Approach: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad emphasizes that his captaincy style varies from MS Dhoni‘s as he prepares to lead India in their initial Asian Games match.

Rising Indian cricket star Ruturaj Gaikwad is embracing the challenge of leading the Indian men’s cricket team at the Asian Games, acknowledging the valuable lessons he’s learned from the legendary MS Dhoni.

However, he’s committed to forging his own distinct leadership style, one that promotes individuality and on-field freedom. When reflecting on his mentor, Gaikwad highlighted the disparities in their leadership approaches.

“I got to learn a lot of things from him (Dhoni) but every person has a different style. His style is different, his personality is different and my personality is a bit different,” Gaikwad told the media ahead of India’s first encounter at Asian Games 2023.

Ruturaj Gaikwad on How MS Dhoni Has Shaped His Captaincy Style

Dhoni, renowned for his deep understanding of cricket, had praised Gaikwad’s batting skills, recognizing his knack for effortlessly adapting to different batting situations.

However, Gaikwad emphasized that while he respects Dhoni’s insights and his approach to managing the game and players, he aims to establish his distinct leadership style as captain.

He underlined his commitment to providing his teammates with the freedom to express themselves fully, enabling them to showcase their talents on the grand platform of the Asian Games.

“I will try to be myself and not really look at what he usually does. Obviously, yes you have to pick out some things that he does really well, how he handles situations and how he handles particular players during a match.”

”Obviously, these are (a) few things I really took from him, but I would like to lead the way I want to. I just want the players to express themselves and give how much ever freedom that I can,” he added.
