India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly informed the BCCI that he is available for selection in next month’s two-match Test series against the West Indies at home. Currently part of India’s Asia Cup squad in the UAE, Bumrah’s fitness and workload continue to be a major talking point due to his injury history.

Earlier this year, Bumrah suffered a back injury during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Since then, the Indian team management has been cautious, featuring him in only three of the five Tests on the England tour.

There had also been speculation about whether the 31-year-old would be included in the T20 Asia Cup squad, considering that if India reach the final on September 28, there would be only three days for Test players to return home and switch to red-ball preparation. The first Test against the West Indies is scheduled to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad.

“Bumrah Won’t Be Rested”- Ryan ten Doeschate

India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate on Tuesday ruled out the chance of Bumrah being rested for India’s Super Fours Asia Cup 2025 clash against Bangladesh.

“It is unlikely that Jasprit Bumrah will be rested. He is set to play the West Indies Tests. We’ve got important matches coming up, and it’s good for him to keep playing and get more match time,” Doeschate told reporters.

So far, the right-arm pacer has featured in three of India’s four matches in the ongoing tournament. He, along with Varun Chakaravarthy, was rested for the dead-rubber Group A clash against Oman, as India had already secured qualification for the next stage.

“Also bearing in mind we have a Test match starting on Thursday. So, it’s actually quite good preparation in terms of workload management. He’s probably going to bowl a few overs in all the games and bowl in the region of 25-26 overs with the training and the preparation going into the game, which is a fairly good number the week before a Test,” Doeschate said.
