India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has temporarily stepped away from the national squad after a close family member was hospitalized, casting serious doubt over his participation in the remaining T20Is against South Africa. The development came ahead of the third T20I, when Bumrah returned home to attend to the personal emergency.

The Indian team management clarified that the decision was taken keeping the pacer’s family situation in mind, emphasizing that his well-being off the field remains a top priority. While Bumrah was initially expected to be part of the full series, the sudden turn of events forced a change in plans.

Captain Confirms Unavailability, Return Remains Uncertain

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed Bumrah’s absence at the toss before the third match, stating that the pacer had been granted permission to leave the squad. Reports suggest that Bumrah’s return to the series will depend entirely on the health condition of his family member.

While there is still a slim chance that he could rejoin the team for the fourth or fifth T20I if circumstances improve, no concrete timeline has been set. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to monitor the situation closely and issue updates when clarity emerges.

India Push Ahead Despite Bumrah’s Absence

Despite missing their lead fast bowler, India delivered a strong performance in the third T20I, underlining the squad’s depth and adaptability. The bowling unit stepped up collectively, ensuring that Bumrah’s absence did not significantly disrupt the team’s plans. However, from a strategic standpoint, Bumrah’s potential unavailability for the final two matches could influence India’s approach, especially considering his role as the spearhead of the attack in death overs.

Team management is likely to remain cautious, ensuring there is no pressure on Bumrah to return prematurely. With important tournaments ahead, including major ICC events, India will prioritize his fitness and mental readiness over short-term gains in the ongoing series.
