India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make his return to the playing XI for the third Test at Lord’s after being rested for the second Test at Edgbaston. In the opening Test at Headingley, Bumrah impressed with figures of 5 for 83 in the first innings but went wicketless in the second.
During his absence, Akash Deep stepped up with a remarkable performance in the second Test, taking a total of 10 wickets, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings. Bumrah is likely to replace Prasidh Krishna at Lord’s, as the latter has struggled with both form and economy in the series so far.
At the same time, Bumrah is on the cusp of a major milestone. He requires just seven more wickets to become India’s leading wicket-taker in Tests against England on English soil. The current record is held by Ishant Sharma, who claimed 48 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 34, including two five-wicket hauls.
Jasprit Bumrah currently ranks third among India’s highest wicket-takers in Test matches played in England. The speedster has taken 42 wickets in nine Tests at an impressive average of 24.28, which includes three five-wicket hauls. Sitting just ahead of him is former India captain Kapil Dev, who bagged 43 wickets from 13 Tests on English soil at an average of 39.18, with two five-fers to his name.
