Team India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled to take place in Australia, starting next month. He is the second player to be ruled out of the competition after star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

According to reports, he has not travelled with the team to Thiruvananthapuram where the first T20I took place between India and South Africa and has been ruled out of the series due to a back stress fracture.

No surgery will be required but Jasprit Bumrah will require at least 4-6 months to recover from the injury. A BCCI official told PTI that Bumrah has a stress fracture and could be out of action for months.

“Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Jasprit Bumrah had earlier missed the entire Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. He spent around a month at National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover, post which he was selected for the T20Is against Australia.

He missed the first T20I at Mohali but played the remaining two matches. He looked quite ordinary in those two games he was part of, and it seemed all was not right with his fitness as he was not bowling to the best of his abilities.

Bumrah bowled two overs for 23 runs for just one wicket in the second T20I vs Australia, while giving away 50 runs from his 4 overs in the final game in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to share an update on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury stratus.
