Namibia

Namibia delivered a stellar performance against Tanzania in the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Region Final at Harare Sports Club on October 2. With this win, Namibia advanced to the final of the qualifiers, securing their fourth consecutive T20 World Cup appearance.

Batting first, Namibia’s innings got off to a mixed start. Malan Kruger contributed 28 runs at the top, while Jan Frylinck was dismissed for a duck. Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton added 10 more runs, but it was JJ Smit’s remarkable innings, filled with powerful strokes and smart running between the wickets, that turned the game decisively in Namibia’s favor.

Smit remained unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls, supported by Gerhard Erasmus, who chipped in with 55 runs, helping Namibia post a strong total. Namibia put up a total of 174 runs in their first innings. For Tanzania, Khalidy Juma and Ally Kimote led the bowling attack, claiming two wickets each, while Ajith Augustin and Salum Jumbe chipped in with one wicket apiece.

JJ Smit’s Heroics Lead Namibia To Thrilling Victory

Chasing a target of 175, Namibia delivered an outstanding bowling performance. JJ Smit shone once again, following his stellar batting display with an equally impressive effort with the ball. Tanzania’s openers, Arun Yadav and Abhik Patwa, scored 17 and 31 runs respectively, while Mukesh Suthar contributed 24.

However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to make a significant impact. Smit led Namibia’s bowling attack in the second innings with three wickets. Ben Shikongo also claimed three scalps, supported by Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Ruben Trumpelmann, who took one wicket each.

Namibia restricted Tanzania to 111 runs, dominating the game to secure a 63-run victory and confirming their spot in yet another edition of the T20 World Cup.
