KKR’s Tim Seifert Shares Sad Story Of His COVID Experience In IPL 2021

Tim Seifert

Tim Seifert joined Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020 courtesy of his exploits for Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL last year. However, he is yet to make his debut for the IPL franchise. He did not get into playing XI in the first seven games for the franchise and the suspension meant that he is still awaiting his KKR debut. In between, he contracted the COVID virus for which he had to stay in isolation as well.

He had to stay back in India while all other foreign players went home after the suspension of IPL 2021. Now back in New Zealand and under strict quarantine, Seifert said his “heart sank straight away” when a team official told him of his positive test.

“The world kind of stops a little bit. I just couldn’t really think what was next. And that was the scary part of it. You hear about the bad things, and I thought that was going to happen to me” said the Kiwi international via a video call in Auckland.

He broke down badly during the interaction and took some time off as well where he went all silent. He gathered himself back and went on with his experience.

“The news (in India) is all about a lack of oxygen, you don’t know if you’re going to be in that situation. It’s just the whole unknown of what COVID is, how you’re going to react to it” he said.

Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarty was the first KKR player and the first player in IPL 2021 to contract the virus. He was among four KKR cricketers to test positive for the virus.
