Man Threatens To Set Himself On Fire If India And England T20I Series Continue Amid Coronavirus

The India vs England T20I series is currently being played at Ahmedabad. After a spike in Coronavirus cases, some sense prevailed and it was decided that the matches will be conducted behind closed doors. Over 65,000 people came to watch the first 2 T20Is where spectators were seen sitting close to each other without any face masks which baffled everyone.

Now in a bizarre revelation, a local from Ahmedabad has scared to burn himself if the series continues amid COVID-19. According to a report the man wanted the series to be cancelled in the wake of the growing COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad.

According to the police, an FIR was lodged at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad after the man, identifying himself as Pankaj Patel from Gandhinagar frightened to immolate himself. He apparently called up senior police inspector KV Patel of Chandkheda PS on March 12 and threatened to immolate himself if they don’t cancel the India and England T20I series.

“The man had called on my cell phone on March 12 and threatened to immolate himself if the matches are held. He also used abusive words for the Gujarat government, the Chief Minister, and the Deputy Chief Minister. When I asked his name, he told me he is Pankaj Patel from Gandhinagar. I immediately called up Gandhinagar police control room and shared his phone number with the officials”, K V Patel stated in the FIR, according to Indian Express.

Meanwhile, an audio clip between the caller and the police inspector surfaced on social media platforms. He called to ask whether all the coronavirus-related protocols issued by the state government were being obeyed at the stadium for spectators in Ahmedabad. When the police officer told him that social distancing is not being followed he then demanded that the series between India and England should be cancelled.

Furthermore, the series still continues as the remaining two T20I matches will be played this week in Ahmedabad. England currently leads the series by 2-1 and India will be aiming to level it in the 4th T20I that will be played tomorrow (Tuesday) behind closed doors.
