Day 5 of the first Test between India and England in Trent Bridge has been finally abandoned after consistent rain throughout the day. This also means that the match has ended in a draw with Team India robbed of an opportunity to go 1-up in the Test match. India needed 157 runs to win on the final day chasing a target of 209. India had already scored 52/1 by the end of day 4.

Team India was very unfortunate not to get a result out of this game. They had an upper hand over England throughout the first four days before consistent rain played spoilsport on the final day.

It has not been a great start to the new WTC cycle for either of the teams. The memories of the World Test Championship final against New Zealand came back to haunt the Indian team. When the odds were against India losing the game, after consistent rain in the first three days, a dip in India’s performance led to their defeat on the fifth day. However, against England, it was a completely different story.

The weather forecast for the fifth day’s play was not a great one before the start of the game. There were predictions of consistent rain and the same was the case. It poured all through the day with the intensity not dropping even one bit.

Meanwhile, England would take this as a lucky escape. The final day’s play had all the makings of an Indian win and an England defeat. However, the rain gods have favored the home team bring the series right in the balance with four Test matches remaining.
