Ravindra Jadeja has once again proven why he is one of the most valuable players for India. During the first ODI against England, Jadeja’s spell turned the game in India’s favor, claiming three crucial wickets. His left-arm spin put a stranglehold on the English batters, shifting the momentum in India’s favor. However, this isn’t the first time Jadeja has pulled off such a feat—he has made a habit of delivering in pressure situations.

Jadeja’s Impact in the Middle Overs

One of the key aspects of Jadeja’s bowling is his efficiency in the middle overs. Regardless of whether the pitch is spin-friendly or not, he has an uncanny ability to slow down the scoring rate while also picking up wickets. His sharp accuracy and subtle variations make him a nightmare for batters looking to build an innings.

Ashwin’s Views on Jadeja

Despite his contributions, Jadeja often flies under the radar. Former Indian off-spinner R. Ashwin pointed out how the media fails to appreciate his performances. Calling Jadeja “Jackpot Jango,” Ashwin highlighted how he excels in all three departments—bowling, batting, and fielding.

“Our media fails to appreciate when a player does well. Whenever we lose, everyone becomes a villain. He dismissed Joe Root (in the 1st IND vs ENG ODI). Jadeja goes always under the radar. He is a “Jackpot Jango”. He is +10 in the field, also bowls well and bats in pressure situations as well. We don’t give Jadeja enough credit,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel in the show Ash Ki baat.

Ashwin, who has 765 international wickets, is the second-highest wicket-taker for India behind Anil Kumble. When asked about Jadeja getting closer to his record, Ashwin openly admitted that Jadeja is more naturally gifted. He praised Jadeja’s fitness and fielding, emphasizing how he covers vast areas effortlessly.

Jadeja’s Current Standing in Indian Cricket

With 600 international wickets, Jadeja is now fifth on India’s all-time list, trailing legends like Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh. His ability to contribute across formats makes him an indispensable part of the Indian squad.

Why Jadeja Deserves More Recognition

Beyond bowling, Jadeja has also been a key player with the bat, particularly in red-ball cricket. While his white-ball form has seen some fluctuations, he has become one of India’s most reliable lower-order batters in Tests. His performances overseas, especially in tough conditions, have been remarkable.

Jadeja’s fielding is another asset that often goes unnoticed. His speed, agility, and arm strength make him one of the best fielders in the game. Whether stopping runs in the inner circle or effecting run-outs from the deep, he is a livewire on the field.

Despite consistently delivering for India, Jadeja often remains underappreciated. His ability to turn matches with both bat and ball, coupled with his exceptional fielding, makes him one of the most valuable all-rounders in modern cricket.
