Ravindra Jadeja Surpasses James Anderson To Set Major Record In IND vs ENG 2025 1st ODI

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja surpassed former English pacer James Anderson to set a remarkable record during the first ODI between India and England on Thursday, February 6, in Nagpur. Jadeja became the bowler with the most wickets in ODIs between the two teams, surpassing Anderson’s tally.

Anderson had previously held the record with 40 wickets from 31 matches, boasting an average of 33.52, an economy rate of 5.17, and a strike rate of 38.90. Prior to the match, Jadeja had taken 39 wickets against England in ODIs.

Jadeja equaled Anderson’s record by dismissing former England captain Joe Root in the 19th over, trapping him lbw with a surprising quicker delivery. This also marked the fourth time Jadeja had dismissed Root in ODIs.

Jadeja returned to take his second wicket of the match in the 43rd over. On the fourth ball, he trapped a well-set Jacob Bethell lbw in front of the stumps. Although Bethell was initially given not out, Jadeja called for a review, which led to the decision being overturned.

With this wicket, Jadeja now has 41 wickets against England in ODIs, surpassing Anderson to claim the top spot. Andrew Flintoff (37), Harbhajan Singh (36), and Javagal Srinath/Ravichandran Ashwin (35) round out the top five on this list.

Ravindra Jadeja’s wickets in ODIs throughout his career

Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital contributor with the ball for India across all formats. His ODI statistics are also remarkable, as he has consistently delivered crucial breakthroughs over the years.

Jadeja made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2009. Over his career, he has taken 222 wickets in 198 matches (190 innings), with an average of 35.85 and an economy rate of 4.87, including seven four-wicket and two five-wicket hauls.

As of the current first ODI against England, Jadeja’s figures stand at 2/23 from eight overs, including a maiden over.
