In the MLC 2023, MI New York emerged victorious over Texas Super Kings (TSK) by six wickets, securing a spot in the final where they will face Seattle Orcas on July 31 in Dallas. The match showcased the camaraderie between West Indies legends Kieron Pollard, playing for MI New York, and Dwayne Bravo, representing TSK.
Their history goes back to the 2012 Indian Premier League (IPL) when Bravo’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ousted Pollard’s Mumbai Indians (MI) from the competition during the Eliminator.
At that time, Bravo celebrated by imitating an ‘aeroplane’ gesture. Fast forward to the MLC, MI New York defeated TSK, and Pollard returned the favour by mimicking the same celebration as Bravo. The defeat led to the elimination of Faf du Plessis-led TSK from the tournament.
MI New York shared the video of Pollard’s celebration on Twitter, and in a heartwarming exchange, Bravo was seen welcoming it with a smile.

The two players demonstrated their mutual respect by sharing a hug, showcasing the strong bond they have developed both on and off the field over the years. During the Challenger match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, Nicholas Pooran-led MI New York won the toss and chose to field first.
Trent Boult played a crucial role, taking four wickets to help restrict TSK to 158 runs. Devon Conway and Milind Kumar emerged as the top scorers for TSK with 38 and 37 runs, respectively.
In response, MI faced a challenging start as opener Slade van Staden departed early, scoring just six runs. However, the rest of the batting lineup stepped up, with MI reaching the target in the penultimate over. Dewald Brewis played a crucial role in the chase, scoring an unbeaten 41 off 33 deliveries.
With this impressive victory, MI New York earned their spot in the MLC 2023 final, setting up a thrilling clash against Seattle Orcas for the championship title. Fans eagerly await the showdown in Dallas to witness some exciting cricketing action between the two top teams of the tournament.
