All-rounder Hardik Pandya led Team India in the second ODI against West Indies on Saturday, July 29 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. He is Rohit Sharma’s debut in the ongoing ODI series. The all-rounder got the opportunity to lead Team India, as Rohit was rested for the match, along with Virat Kohli.

This was Hardik Pandya’s second outing as an Indian skipper in the 50-over format. He led the team for the first time in ODIs against Australia earlier this year. India emerged as the winner in the match. Hardik Pandya walked out for the toss surprising the fans in the second ODI against West Indies. He also explained the reason behind resting the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Speaking at the toss, Hardik Pandya said,

“Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, few questions need to be answered for us so they are resting in this game. They can be fresh for the third ODI.”

West Indies won the toss and asked India to bat first. Hardik Pandya expressed that they want to test their batting attack, as the pitch has an invariable bounce. The all-rounder said, “We were looking to bat first. We want to see how much we can score on this pitch which is a bit up and down.”

Sanju Samson, Axar Patel get opportunity in second ODI for Team India

Team India brought in the likes of Sanju Samson and Axar Patel in the playing XI for the second ODI. They replaced the two veteran players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Continuing the trend from the first ODI, Ishan Kishan opened the innings along with Shubman Gill. Meanwhile, West Indie brought in Alzarri Joseph and Keacy Carty in place of Rovman Powell and Dominic Drakes.
