Mohammed Shami is set to lead India’s fast-bowling attack in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The first match will take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6. This series presents Shami with an opportunity to etch his name in cricket history.
Shami’s Quest for 200 ODI Wickets
Shami, who last played a 50-over match in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia on November 19, 2023, has 195 wickets in 101 ODIs. If he manages to take five wickets in Nagpur, he will surpass Australian pacer Mitchell Starc as the fastest bowler to claim 200 wickets in ODIs.
Mitchell Starc currently holds the record for being the fastest bowler to take 200 wickets in ODIs, achieving the milestone in his 102nd innings of his 102nd match. For Shami, the first ODI against England will be his 102nd match, but he will be bowling for the 101st time in ODIs.
