Mumbai Indians Trade Mayank Markande For Sherfane Rutherford With Delhi Capitals

Mumbai Indians crowned champions of IPL 2019

PlDefending IPL champions Mumbai Indians has become the first team to trade on their players to another team in a transfer window which has been introduced in IPL in the last two years. However, it has been the first by any team. The 4-time champions have decided to trade leg-spinner Mayank Markande in favour of Windies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford who had played for the Delhi Capitals last year.

Markande had an impressive season with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018. However, after his exceptional performance in the first few matches, he faded away. In 2019. Rahul Chahar was preferred ahead of him and he couldn’t make a mark in the limited opportunities. Markande has played a solitary T20I for India and is also a regular feature in the A teams.

Markande will now play for the Delhi Capitals who already have three leg spinners in their squad in the form of Amit Mishra, Rahul Tewatia and Sandeep Lamichhane.

“We wish Mayank the very best for his future. He is a brilliant talent and we were fortunate to have spotted and nurtured him early. It is a difficult decision for us, but we are releasing him for better cricketing prospects and know that he is on the cusp of emerging as yet another shining star of Indian cricket. He will always be a part of the Mumbai Indians family,” said Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani.

Sherfane Rutherford was impressive with the bat during his IPL stint with the Delhi Capitals. The 20-year-old has played a solitary T20I for the Windies. Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani was excited to have Rutherford in the MI family.

“I am excited to welcome the talented Sherfane into our family. He has impressed us with his all-round skills and match-winning attitude. His exploits across the world at such an early stage of his career have been impressive and we believe he finds his home at MI,” said Ambani.
