The victorious Indian team of the T20 World Cup 2024 was present in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha in Mumbai just the following day after their grand triumph victory parade that started from the business capital of India, Nariman Point, to the heart of Mumbai, where the party was not over yet at Wankhede Stadium in the city of dreams.
Wicketkeeper-batsman, Utmost Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, when they reached Assembly, Deputy CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis, CM Eknath Shinde, and other dignitaries received them. The state government recognized all the cricket players who were from Maharashtra.
At this point, Fadnavis prompted his elder brother Shinde to build a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in the state capable of accommodating more than a lakh spectators, which would make it the largest stadium in the country.
As reported in The Times of India recently, MSRDC has floated an open tender for fifty acres of land in Amane village in Thane district, and MCA has already shown its interest in this site. Once the state government approves, proper planning of the tactics that need to be employed will be developed.
A new cricket stadium is planned to be built in Mumbai:
According to a story in the TOI, the MCA has plans to establish a new stadium in Thane, 68 km away from the Wankhede Stadium. Here in Amane village, a total of fifty acres of the spacious compound will be developed to contain the newly endowed stadium.
There is information that MSRDC has launched an open tender for the purchase of the stadium’s property by MCA. They are currently on the waitlist and are still waiting for the approval of the Maharashtra government on the project.
At present, two MCA grounds have hosted international matches: Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, and Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Matches between international teams have also been played at BKC Ground and Deccan Gymkhana Ground but neither of them do not have sophisticated facilities.
The earlier-situated stadium, known as the Brabourne Stadium, is also nearby Wankhede, though it has a connection with the city’s association only as a neighbor since it is owned and managed by CCI.
