Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Capitals in the 34th match of IPL 2022 season. While chasing the mammoth target of 223, Delhi capitals fell short by 15 runs. However, the match witnessed an interesting controversy in the last over of the match. This spiced up things in the match and became a hot topic on the internet.
Delhi Capitals needed 36 runs to win in 6 balls with Obed Mccoy bowling the final over. Powell smashed the first 3 balls for 3 sixes. However, third ball grabbed the limelight of all cricket fans. McCoy bowled a waist height full-toss which DC batter Rovman smashed for a six. On field umpire Nitin Menon didn’t call it a no – ball and neither he consulted 3rd umpire to check if it is a no ball.
Pant stood up and tried to call back his batters to the dugout after the umpires did not check for a waist-high delivery. Delhi Capitals captain even sent assistant coach Pravin Amre to settle the dispute on ground. But these actions of Pant weren’t taken lightly by people on internet and they slammed the DC captain for his irresponsible behaviour.
Here are some of top twitter reactions on it :
Shocking night. The umpiring has been worse than even gully-mohalla standard but Rishabh Pant had no business to suggest his batsmen to stage a walkout #DCvRR

Bad sportsman spirit on display by #DelhiCapitals
Cricket is a game of gentlemen and this behaviour is completely unacceptable. #IPL20222 #DCvsRR— Mohammed Azharuddin (@azharflicks) April 22, 2022
Umpire made call, accept it. I am not that upset with Pant but more so some of the senior people around Pant in the dug out for not helping settle the situation. Momentum was with DC, pressure on bowler, carry on put batter in negative mood and bowler had time to calm. #DCvRR https://t.co/jTULwtDjKu

What was Rishabh Pant thinking? Yes that should've a noball and the umpiring is poor, it has been the same throughout this tournament and for some seasons. Calling the players back abandoning the game is ridiculous. This is not gully cricket.

Kevin Pietersen said, "Rishabh Pant calling batters back and coach entering the field to stop the play was unacceptable. I hope I never ever see this kind of a thing again".

I know this was in the heat of the moment but this should never happen ever.Completely concur that they should have gone to the third umpire but still no place for such things in this sport. The umpires r there for a reason & every now & then they will get a few decisions wrong. https://t.co/K5DTvXjZY8

Extremely poor from Rishabh Pant on he was trying to handle the situation. The umpires at times get wrong decisions but there are ways to handle it #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/dSIkQXZSMm

This is poor from DC. Not expected from Pant.

Still laughing at the way Pant pointed to send Pravin Amre onto the ground like he is his bodyguard going to beat the umpire up

Delhi Capitals team management didn’t look happy with this decision of the umpire and they expressed their displeasure against it. All of them in DC team management wanted the on field umpire to refer to the third umpire for checking the no- ball. However, the on-field umpire stood firm on his decision.
Rishabh Pant and Pravin Amre charged for breaching code of conduct
As a result of misbehaving with official umpires , Rishabh Pant and Pravin Amre have also been fined 100% of their match fees for breaching the code of conduct.
“Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 percent of his match-fee for breaching the (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals. Mr Pant admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction,” the IPL said in a release on Saturday.
