PCB Rolls Out Free Tickets To Boost Pakistan Vs South Africa Test Attendanc

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently announced an initiative to offer free and low-cost tickets for the upcoming two-match Test series between Pakistan and South Africa. This series, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, will feature the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from October 12 to 16, followed by the second Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20 to 24. By making tickets more accessible, the PCB aims to attract larger crowds and revive interest in Test cricket across the country.

One of the key factors influencing this decision appears to be the historically low attendance at Pakistan’s Test matches. Despite ticket prices being relatively low during previous series, such as last year’s contest against Bangladesh, “barely spectators showed up for the game despite low-priced tickets.” The board hopes that by providing either free or highly affordable tickets, fans will feel encouraged to return to stadiums and support the national team in the longest format of the game.

Challenges in Attracting Test Fans

A significant reason behind the declining interest in Test cricket in Pakistan is linked to the team’s inconsistent performance in this format. Many supporters believe that the team “has not met expectations in the longest format of the game,” which has led to a drop in enthusiasm, particularly among younger fans. The growing popularity of fast-paced T20 cricket among this demographic has further contributed to the challenge. As attention shifts towards shorter formats, red-ball cricket struggles to maintain its fan base, making crowd turnout a persistent issue for the PCB.

Broader Schedule and Ticket Availability

In addition to the Test series, Pakistan and South Africa will also compete in a set of white-ball matches, including three T20Is and three ODIs. Tickets for these matches will become available from October 16. By strategically pricing tickets for both Test and limited-overs formats, the PCB hopes to ensure that cricket fans across Pakistan have multiple opportunities to engage with the sport. This move reflects the board’s intention to strengthen fan participation, reinvigorate interest in traditional cricket formats, and enhance the overall stadium experience for spectators throughout the series.
