Team India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has voiced his support for Ishit Bhatt, the 10-year-old who recently appeared on Sony Entertainment Television’s quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati 17. After the episode aired, Bhatt became the target of heavy trolling on social media, with some viewers criticizing what they perceived as his ‘disrespectful’ demeanour.
A section of the audience disapproved of his tone while interacting with host Amitabh Bachchan. Responding to the backlash, Chakaravarthy strongly condemned those trolling the young contestant, reminding people that Bhatt is just a child and deserves the space to grow. The spinner shared his thoughts on X on Thursday, October 16.
“Example of how social media has become a place for cowards running their mouths without any sense.! He is a kid for god sake !! Let him grow !! If u can’t tolerate a kid, imagine the society still tolerating many nut cases like the ones commenting on this kid and much more !!!!!”
Varun Chakaravarthy Named In India’s T20I Squad For Australia Tour
Varun Chakaravarthy last featured for India in the Asia Cup 2025, where he delivered an impressive performance. He finished as the team’s second-highest wicket-taker, claiming seven wickets in six innings while maintaining an economy rate of 6.50. India went on to lift the trophy, defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final.
The spinner has been named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Australia but did not find a spot in the ODI squad. His exclusion raised eyebrows, especially given his key role in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy victory. Chakaravarthy emerged as India’s leading wicket-taker in the ICC tournament, picking up nine wickets in just three matches.
The ODI series in Australia begins in Perth on October 19, followed by the T20I opener in Canberra on October 29.
