Team India cricketer Virat Kohli has been going through a prolonged lean patch in his career. His form has come under scrutiny recently, following his dismal outing against England this year. Virat Kohli’s last International century came against Bangladesh in 2019 in India. Since then he hasn’t been able to put up consistent big scores for India. With the 2022 T20 World Cup around the corner, his form has become a cause of concern for the Indian team.

Virat Kohli has played four T20I matches in 2022, scoring just 81 runs at a strike rate of 128.57. Some experts have questioned the Indian cricketer’s place in the Indian T20I team. However, in a chat with Sports Yaari, his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal backed the veteran batter. He highlighted Virat Kohli’s illustrious T20I record in T20Is. Chahar expressed that the right-handed batter has been Man of the Tournament in two T20 World Cups.

“If there is someone who has 50+ average in T20Is, he has been the Man Of The Tournament in two T20 World Cups, he has 70 hundred across all formats. You just see his average across all formats, the problem is we just think about his 100s, we don’t talk about those valuable contributions of 60-70 because of the standards he has set,” said Yuzvendra Chahal.

“If he is there at the crease and has 15-20 runs behind him, I am telling you no bowler wants to bowl to him,” he added.

Captains always prefer what I want to do: Yuzvendra Chahal

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is an integral member of Team India in white-ball cricket. He has performed well so far for India, taking 197 wickets in ODIs and T20Is combined. During his six-year-long International career, the 32-year-old has played mostly under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Speaking about playing under the two captains, Yuzvendra Chahal expressed that he has always been looked at as a wicket-taking option. He also added that the captains prefer going ahead with his plan while bowling. Chahal said,

“My role has always been the same under different captains, they always use me as a wicket-taking bowler. For me, they are all same. I have gotten the liberty as a bowler. They always prefer what I want to do. Sometimes Rohit bhaiya asks me this is the situation, what will you do? As a bowler, you know, you cannot be relaxed in any over.”
