The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) inaugurated the Rohit Sharma Stand at Wankhede Stadium on Friday, honoring the Indian cricketer’s legacy. The event marked a significant moment for Sharma, reflecting his journey from Borivali to becoming one of India’s top players.

A Legacy Etched in Records

Rohit Sharma’s cricket journey began in Borivali, Mumbai, where financial constraints led him to live with his uncle to be closer to his academy. His parents made sacrifices to support his ambitions. His talent soon caught the attention of selectors, and in 2007, he earned his place in the Indian team, marking the start of a remarkable career.

Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual ODI score of 264 and is the only player with three double centuries in the format. In Tests, he established himself as a reliable top-order batter, scoring centuries both at home and overseas. His success in T20s includes multiple IPL titles, showcasing his timing and aggressive stroke play. As captain, he led Mumbai Indians to five IPL championships, earning respect for his tactical acumen and composed leadership.

The Wankhede Tribute – Rohit Sharma Stand

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) renamed Divecha Pavilion Level 3 as the Rohit Sharma Stand, honoring his contributions to cricket. The event was attended by cricket legends, politicians, teammates, and his family, who have been part of his journey. The atmosphere was filled with cheers and emotion, marking a proud moment for Sharma and his supporters.

A Son First – Rohit’s Touching Gesture

During the Wankhede Stadium stand inauguration, Rohit Sharma shifted the spotlight to his parents, escorting them onto the stage in a heartfelt gesture. As the event ended and the crowd surged, he instinctively shielded his mother, ensuring his parents exited safely.

During a heartfelt moment, Rohit Sharma asked his mother, “Kidar jana, kidar jana, kuch khana hai?”—a simple yet touching gesture that reflected his deep care. His warmth and affection toward his parents continue to make him a role model beyond cricket. Clips of his actions quickly went viral, earning widespread admiration for his humility and deep-rooted family values.

During a candid exchange, Rohit Sharma spotted damage on a car and asked his brother Vishal, “Yeh kya hai?” Vishal responded with a casual “Reverse mein,” prompting Rohit to jokingly ask, “Kiska? Tere se?” The lighthearted moment highlighted the easygoing bond between the two brothers.

Rohit’s Tribute to Family

Rohit Sharma, visibly emotional, thanked his family—his parents, brother, sister-in-law, and wife—during the Wankhede Stadium stand inauguration. He reflected on the sacrifices that shaped his journey, from long train rides to financial struggles. Calling the honor surreal, he expressed his desire to represent India at the venue again.

Rohit stated, “So many people, especially my mom and dad, my brother, his wife, and my wife — very special people in my life — have sacrificed so much for me to be standing here today.”
