Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja has stressed the need for a cricketing bond with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The former Pakistan cricketer also mentioned that it will require a lot of hard work from both the board to reach a comfortable level to resume bilateral series. The comments came after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on Monday which also had two BCCI office-bearers.

Incidentally, the relation between both India and Pakistan has touched a new low amid the growing political difference over Jammu & Kashmir. The last time Pakistan toured India for a bilateral series was in 2012/13. The two-match T20I series ended in a draw with both teams winning a fixture each. Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1. While they have played against each other in ICC events, there have been no signs of resuming bilateral rivalry.

Speaking on PCB digital after an ACC meet where BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah were present, Ramiz Raja said:

“I met with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah on the sidelines of the ACC meetings. We need to create a cricketing bond, while I have also believed that politics should stay away from the sport as much as possible and this has always been our stance.”

“A lot of work needs to be done to revitalise Pakistan-India cricket but there needs to be some comfortable level between the two boards and then we can see how far we can go. So overall, we had a good discussion,” he added.

Pakistan to host 2023 Asia Cup – Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja on Monday said the 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan will be a 50-over competition. The tournament is likely to take place before the 2023 50-over World Cup.

“The ACC has agreed and approved that the 2023 event in Pakistan will be a 50-over competition and will be held in September. This aligns very nicely with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in October and November,” said Raja in an official release.
