Ravi Shastri To Continue As The Head Coach Of Indian Cricket Team

Former Cricketer, Commentator, Team Director (and Head Coach), Ravi Shastri will continue to remain India”s Head Coach. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy made the decision to reappoint Shastri.

The Kapil Dev-led panel initially shortlisted 6 candidates for the job. Out of the 6, the top three candidates in the order of preference were, Ravi Shastri followed by Mike Hesson and then Tom Moody.

Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the Head Coach from September 2019 till the end of ICC World T20 in 2021, India.

This would be Ravi Shastri”s fourth stint with the Indian Team. He was the Cricket Manager in the 2007 tour of Bangladesh, Team Director in 2014-2016 and head coach in 2017-2019.

Under Shastri, India has won 13 out of 21 Tests, 43 out of 60 ODIs and 25 out of 36 T20Is.

Kapil Dev stated that Kohli”s advice was not taken into consideration. “If we had taken Kohli’s advice, then we would have to take advice from everyone in the team. We did not ask anyone. We did not have that provision with us.”

Anshuman Gaekwad mentioned that Shastri has good communication skills and is well versed with the system.

“He is well versed with the system and knows the boys very well. He has a good understanding with the boys and has good communication skills.”

In the selection procedure, it was a difference of small numbers. Each candidate was given marks out of 100.

Kapil Dev also mentioned regarding the support staff. He said that the CAC should have a say in the selection of support staff as well. They have written a letter to the BCCI regarding the same.
