Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has pledged ₹25 lakh in compensation to the families of the 11 victims of the Bengaluru stampede. The team confirmed the announcement on social media, emphasizing that the support goes beyond financial aid, representing a gesture of compassion, unity, and care.
For those unaware, the celebrations following RCB’s IPL victory at Chinnaswamy Stadium ended in tragedy, with 11 people losing their lives and 56 others injured in the stampede. Notably, RCB had remained silent on social media for 84 days before unveiling the RCB Cares initiative.
“We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community & our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us,” wrote RCB.
“No amount of support can ever fill the space they’ve left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended ₹25 lakh each to their families. Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care.
“This is also the beginning of 𝗥𝗖𝗕 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦: a long-term commitment for meaningful action that begins by honouring their memory. Every step forward will reflect what the fans feel, expect, and deserve.”

What Unfolded After The Stampede
RCB faced direct criticism for the stampede. According to a report submitted by the Karnataka government to the High Court, the RCB management, their event partner DNA Networks Private Limited, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association organized the victory celebration without consulting the police, and failed to secure the necessary permissions and licenses.
Subsequently, the Justice John Michael D’Cunha Commission submitted its findings to the Karnataka government, declaring Chinnaswamy Stadium unsafe for large-scale events due to structural and design concerns. This verdict also led to the relocation of the Women’s World Cup matches from the venue.
