Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wrist-spinner Suyash Sharma stirred conversation by naming another RCB legend as the GOAT instead of Virat Kohli during the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. He is currently representing the Outer Delhi Warriors. During a rapid-fire session on the tournament sidelines, Sharma chose former RCB opener Chris Gayle as the GOAT.
Gayle had joined RCB midway through IPL 2011, replacing Dirk Nannes, and made an instant impact by scoring an unbeaten century on his debut. Over the years, Gayle became a cornerstone of RCB’s batting lineup, delivering several unforgettable performances, including a stunning 175 not out against the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013.

Chris Gayle featured in 85 matches for RCB between 2011 and 2017, amassing 3,163 runs at an average of 43.33 and a strike rate of 152.73, including five centuries. He also claimed the ‘Orange Cap’ twice during his time with the franchise.
Despite his incredible performances, a title eluded him with RCB. The team reached the IPL final twice, in 2011 and 2016, but fell short on both occasions. Although Suyash Sharma didn’t name Virat Kohli as the GOAT, he acknowledged the star batter as the ultimate run machine.
How Suyash Sharma Played A Key Role In RCB’s First IPL Title?
RCB clinched their maiden IPL title in the recently concluded 2025 season, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets in the final. Suyash Sharma was an integral part of the squad and played a crucial role throughout their successful campaign. The 22-year-old was acquired by RCB for ₹2.60 crore during the mega auction.
Over 14 matches, he claimed eight wickets at an economy rate of 8.84, often bowling tight spells and keeping batters under control in high-pressure situations. Though his wicket tally wasn’t the highest, Sharma made important contributions alongside Krunal Pandya in the spin department.
His standout performance came in the first qualifier against PBKS, where Punjab were restricted to just 101 runs. Sharma picked up 3/17, dismissing Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, and Musheer Khan, effectively setting up the win. RCB comfortably chased the total in just ten overs, winning by eight wickets, with Sharma earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
