The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming 5- match T20I series against West Indies. The T20I series would start from 29th July and end on 7th August. It would be a crucial series for the Indian team to nail their preparation for T20 WC this year.
The BCCI has announced almost a full strength squad. Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are the only two big names missing from the T20I squad against West Indies. Both of them have been rested for the T20I series. Yuzvendra Chahal too has been rested for upcoming T20I series against West Indies.
Exclusion of Sanju Samson and Umran Malik has also been surprising for various cricket fans. Cricket fans believe that Samson and Umran can be very handy for the bouncy pitches of Australia where T20 WC would be played this year.
Sanju Samson had a brilliant series against Ireland where he played a brilliant knock of 77 runs. Fans wanted selectors to give a complete series to Sanju. Umran Malik didn’t have a good outing in the 3 T20I matches he played, but his pace cam be an X Factor for T20 WC in Australia. Here are top twitter reactions of fans on exclusion of Samson and Umran:
Story of giving opportunity for Sanju Samson in T20I:
1 T20 vs ZIM on 2015 July
1 T20 vs SL on 2020 Jan
2 T20 vs NZ on 2020 Feb
3 T20 vs AUS on 2020 Dec
3 T20 vs SL on 2021 July
2 T20 vs SL on 2022 Feb
1 T20 vs IRE on 2022 Jun— Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) July 14, 2022

Sanju Samson couldn't find a place in India's T20I squad once again.
His stats since 2019:
vs Pace: 31.13 Avg, 147.50 SR
vs Spin: 29.56 Avg, 143.77 SRHe is one of the best Indian T20 batters, still not a regular member of this squad. Really absurd!

Feel for Sanju Samson. Once again Sanju was dropped from the team India's squad although he was not done anything wrong. He performed as many opportunities as he got. He played one T20I vs Ireland, he scored 77(42). At least Sanju should have been in the squad.

Ideally, you would want to players like Sanju Samson in the T20s. Ignoring him for Shreyas Iyer is beyond cricketing rationale #DoddaMathu #CricketTwitter #WIvIND

Too soon for Umran Malik anyway. And honestly, Samson is a good player but will you drop Pant, SKY, Karthik, Hardik or Jadeja for him? There is the answer.

I have two questions :
1. Why Arshdeep is not in England T20s but in WI t20s and why Umran is dropeed ?
2. Why is Chahal resting and is Ashwin in his place ?— Sufiyan, Mohammad (@sufizm05) July 14, 2022
Well played @BCCI
One thing is almost clear that Sanju won't be there in the plane to Australia despite doing nothing wrong. https://t.co/OhBSNo1tHb— Cricketcasm (@cricketcasm) July 14, 2022
KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav make comeback in T20I squad
Indian opener KL Rahul and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have also been included in the T20I squad, given the condition they clear the fitness test. It would be a great chance for Arshdeep Singh to prove his worth as a T20 specialist. Rishabh Pant too would like to improve his T20I stats.
India squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul*, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav*, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.
